3D Printer Holiday Closure Instructions

During the holiday season, most of us aren't using our PolyJet- or FDM-based additive manufacturing systems for extended periods of time. Let's take a moment to go over the procedures to maintain optimal 3D printer function over the breaks—instructions brought to you by the FATHOM support team. For PolyJet machines, it is only necessary to shut down the printer if it will not be used for a week or more. Otherwise, the printer can remain powered on, in idle mode. We recommend full shut downs during the Christmas and New Year breaks.

For FDM machines (Fortus, Dimension, uPrint and Mojo), there are no shut down procedures we recommend over the holidays, but it is imperative to keep your machine clean and free from any debris—this way the next time you go to print, you will not have any issues.

  • Clean tips, tip shields, wiper brush and empty waste bin.

  • Turn off the machine normally when you go away for the holidays.

  • Boot up the machine normally when you want it back online.

Here's to a great holiday season!
